Topic: Maximum stereo inputs, requirements on Fireface UC

I need to get 15 stereo audio signals into a PC for
transcoding in a 3rd party app into 3 types of encodings
for 3 x 15 Web streams in all. There's of course issues
of CPU power et al., as well as the application handling
3 encodings at once for 15 streams.

But in terms of inputs, it looks like if I try
analog the Fireface UC only supports 2 stereo inputs
but using an ADAT interface I can get 8 stereo inputs
or only 4? Is there a better way to stack up 15 inputs
into an XP server? (Someone mentioned one HDSPe MADI
card and an ADI-6432 box)

The FF UC and FF 400 both come with 8 analog Inputs (mono). You'd need to connect another 8 Inputs via ADAT.

15 STEREO inputs = 30 Mono Channels.  ADAT will carry 8 MONO channels or 4 STEREO pairs @ 44.1K/48K.  You will need more inputs than the FF400/UC will offer.  I believe a Raydat or MADI card plus external AD's will be your only option for that many simultaneous inputs in the RME line.  A pair of MOTU 24I/O's (one core, one expansion) would do, but the general concensus is that the AD's on that unit aren't so hot...

Not at all.  I think you are allowed one error every 100 days or so smile .  Your intricate work in the DAW field is impressive to say the least - you are always solving one issue or another :-)

Best to put MTBF in seconds, 100*24*3600 = 1/9000000
Makes it look better even if it's only a few hours.

Are these 30 channels digital or analog?
What about sample rate and sample size?
