Topic: Question about Channels / Outputs

Hi,

I have a FF800 using Logic 8.0 and a pair of monitors coming out of AN 1+2.

All the channels in Logic are set-up to go out via outputs 1+2 to TotalMix, where they then go on to AN 1+2.

I don't have live-room or do much vocal recording as most of my music is synthesizer / internally based.

Therefore, I don't use many of the outputs much, but I was wondering whether this would have an impact on my mix quality?

For example:  Let's say this is a typical project at the moment:-

Drums   >>> Outputs 1+2 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors
Bass     >>> Outputs 1+2 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors
Synth   >>> Outputs 1+2 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors
Strings  >>> Outputs 1+2 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors

I was wondering.  What effect on sound quality would the FF800 deliver if I changed the setup to this:-

Drums   >>> Outputs 1+2 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors
Bass     >>> Outputs 3+4 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors
Synth   >>> Outputs 5+6 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors
Strings  >>> Outputs 7+8 in Logic >>> AN 1+2 to Monitors

The reason I ask, is because I got it into my head, that somehow it might sound cleaner and less muddy if everything wasn't crammed into 1+2.

Is this true, or am I just deluding myself!?

Any help would be great!

Re: Question about Channels / Outputs

In either case, your signals are getting summed.  In the first case, the mix is happening in Logic, and in the second, it's happening in TotalMix.  Try it both ways and see if you can hear any difference.
