Topic: Do i need word clock?

HI,

Apologies if this is a really dumb question but in the following setup do i need to have some sort of word clock card/reference?

Cubase 5.1 on a Mac Pro Dual Core 2.66 running 10.5.8
FF800 connected to the Mac via FW800 on the rear internal Mac FW800 port
FF800 connected to the Mackie d8b via ADAT light pipes and spdif.

In my RME FF settings i have the following:

I'd be grateful if anyone can enlighten this uneducated mind ;-)

Thanks,

SkM

Re: Do i need word clock?

Does it work?

You got your mackie as a master, and the FF 800 is synced to it, so there should be no problem.
Word clock connections are useful in larger setups, or when you have problems with syncing, but as far as everything works, you should not need that.

Re: Do i need word clock?

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. Presently all works, although Cubase throws up some CPU/audio issues but i think thats a FW issue with using the Mac's internal FW400 port. Am just waiting for a Siig 800/400 FW PCIe card so hopefully that will help.

Thanks,

SkM
