Topic: Firewire via PCI or onboard?
Hi,
I'm about to invest in a new PC system and I obviously need for it to work properly with my RME FF800. I don't want to buy a Gigabyte mobo with onboard TI Firewire chipset, given that I'm afraid of the coil noise issues with many Gigabyte boards (my current computer has a Gigabyte mobo). So I'm looking at probably getting an ASUS board instead, but since that has a VIA firewire chipset I wanted to buy a PCI firewire card with a TI chipset. What I basically want to know is if there are any drawbacks to this solution. Should a PCI card work just as well as onboard firewire (like on the Gigabyte mobos) or is there something I'm missing?
I don't seem to be able to find a PCIe firewire card in Denmark, all I've found is the LaCie firewire 400 PCI card with TI chipset.
Cheers,
