Topic: FF400 laptop issues- please help :-/

I have been running a FF400 through my desktop (win vista) with no problems for some time.

I am now trying to connect to my laptop (also on vista) without success.

My laptop is a Toshiba Equium L40 with
Intel Dual CPU T330 1.60GHZ
2 GB RAM
I have an Intel 965 Chipset

I have no direct firewire connection so have installed a Texas Instruments 1394 Host Controller (express card).

My issue, is that when i connect the firewire cable I get nothing (no LEDS or anything) from the FF400.

I am a relative newbie with the added complication of being a simpleton when it comes to hardware so it could well be i am missing something simple.  i.e would the ff400 require an external power supply when connecting to the laptop?

Is there anybody who could offer any advice to help me, even if it is to explain that the ff400 and my laptop spec (i hope i have given enough info) are incompatible?

thanks for your time!

Hi,
Yes the FF400 requires external power when running off a laptop.
Even if the express card has a 6 pin connector the connector does not supply buss power.

Thanks Chris
