Hi,
You need to use the correct playback codec. Windows does not come with this codec. Power DVD, WinDVD or free Codec packs such a Sharky 007 will allow for your DVD audio to playback correctly.
Thanks Chris
My vote is for Shark 007 W7 Codecs
Hmm, I always use standard Windows Media player for that and did not install additional codecs so far. Every DVD I tried works correctly so far...
Hi Matthias,
Did at some point install WinDVD or PowerDVD or other DVD player software on the system?
Windows Media Player could be using their Codec to playback.
I've never seen a fresh Windows XP, Vista or 7 install be able to playback the average commercial DVD without some 3rd party codec.
What version of Windows 7 do you use?
Thanks Chris
I thought W7 would play DVD's "out of the box" - it might even be able to pass thru AC3 or DTS (Might be what the OP is experiencing). I still install the Shark 007 Codecs for other file types in WMP and MediaCenter...
Hi Randyman,
No DVD I've gotten from Netflix will playback in Windows 7 Ultimate without that noise unless I installed a codec.
The video plays back but the audio is all noise.
I tried all the combination's I could think of trying to get WMP to play back.
The only thing that worked was to use Sharky's 007 and set DVD formats to use FFDshow codec.
I would love to know if people are getting it work with a vanilla Window 7 install and the Fireface 800's defaults settings.
If so then how.
Chris
W7 plays DVDs right out of the box, including digital pass through of audio and decoding to analog outs, stereo and surround.. Is that 'noise' you refer to the AC-3 signal (chopped white noise)? Then it's just a configuration error in the speaker setup (or an older driver of ours...).
Hi Matthias,
Ok will need to check again with a fresh win 7 install.
I've tried both the latest official driver and the new public beta driver with the default fire face settings and Window 7 setting.
What Windows settings and Fireface settings are required for this so I can set our machines up that way.
I hate having to install extra 3rd party if I don't need to.
Thanks Chris
