Topic: Lock / No Lock

Hello all,

I'm Brett, newbie here. I've been using RME products for years, always very happy. But I have a few problems here and they are very urgent to solve.

This thread is about the first one:

I have a Fireface 800, an Octamic D and an Octamic II.
For some reason, I want to use one of the Octamic as Master, the second Octamic as Slave and the FF800 as Slave too (AutoSync). And for some reason, this doesn't work although it definitely should.

If I connect only one of the Octamic to the FF, it works.

As soon as I connect the other one, sync is lost.
I tried to chain the word clock cable in every order (putting a T on the FF800, Octamic D or Octamic II). By the way I'm using RME BNC cable (15 cm), 75 ohms, and RME T-connectors.

Something really weird I have noticed is this:

I set the Octamic II as master, connected to the FF800 (slave), and use Adat 1. All is fine.

As soon as I connect the Octamic D to the Adat 2, I lose sync with the Octamic II even though the WC cable is not plugged into the Octamic D... How can this happen? This second unit is set as Ext (slave), it seems like some sync signal is sent through the Adat cable but I see no reason for this (Preferred Sync Ref is set to Word Clock on the FF Settings).

I'm losing my mind with this. Could someone please help me?...

Thank you in advance.

Brett

Re: Lock / No Lock

Hi Brett,

What about the termination switch? The last device (only) in the Word Clock chain should be terminated.

What does SyncCheck report in the FF800 settings? You should see sync for all 3 inputs used (ADAT 1, ADAT 2, Word Clock).

Re: Lock / No Lock

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
About the termination switch, out of despair I have tried all combinations, and nothing helped.
The SyncCheck reports "Sync" for the master Octamic, and "Lock" alternating with "No Lock" for the second one (with the green led flashing in front).

Cheers,

Brett
