Topic: Config options for beginner - recommendations please

I have been using the FF400 for the last few years for recording/playback single/double guitar players and looking to change/add to the config.

Current config:

Fireface 400, quad core PC 64bit Win7, Sonar 8.5, Reaper 3.4,  monitors: Focal 6be

I have a good selection of high end mic's that are connected through In: 1/2 and 3/4 when required.  Monitors are connected to Out 1/2.

What I would like to is introduce some sort of midi control and start taking advantage of the plugin's available on Sonar and possibly a mid level Midi.

question:  What wiring considerations do I need (Midi In/Out) Adat?
What (if any) Midi control would you recommend for this novice.

Thank you for any suggestions/recommendations.

Jim

Re: Config options for beginner - recommendations please

Hi Jim,
The Mackie MCU is an excellent DAW controller.
Pretty much all the current brand of DAW controllers base their control on the Mackie's own control protocol.
The only differences between most are look and feel and the number of features implemented.
The MCU offers the most well rounded of all.
It can also control the routing functions of the Fireface Mixer.
The MCU using USB to connect to your system so you will have MIDI ports dedicated to it and still have the ones on your Fireface open.
Most plug ins effect parameters will be accessible for automation on the MCU.

You woudl only need ADAT if you were using a AD/DA converter or a Digital Mixer.

Thanks Chris
