Topic: questions before buying fireface uc

hello, im drummer from slovenia and before i  buy another piece of gear i need some answers...now im using echo audiofire2, but i have ricoh chipset and it doesnt work very well with my laptop:
hp compaq 6910p
120 gb 5400rpm
2gb ddr2 ram
OS win xp pro(sp3) 32-bit
laptop is dedicatet for music only...i have just cubase sx3 and addictive drums running on it...in cubase latency is 5.9 in/5.9 out ...i have ich8 drivers, so in that case rme fireface uc should work just fine...or am i wrong? so that will be my first buy, maybe tommorow if my laptop is good enough for this usb monster wink ...another thing is disk and ram...will performance be a lot better with intel ssd 80gb and another 2gb of ram (4gb total) ?
i really need your help, beacouse i cant afford to spend another 1100eur for a gear that will not work stabile enough for live performance...i know laptop isnt the best on market, but i think that its not that bad for my purpose...after all, i will buy a new one later on, but first i need good audio interface on usb...i hope rme will support usb3 in the future...
thanks for help

edit:oh, another thing...will ill be safer with OS 64-bit(xp, or 7), or running the 32bit os isnt that bad

sorry for bad english wink

Re: questions before buying fireface uc

Does this HP have a dedicated graphic hardware or is this on-chip Intel graphics? Dedicated graphic chip is recommended.
Most of us don't have SSD yet, so you can save some money here.

Re: questions before buying fireface uc

no, i have intel based graphic...i guess i have to buy new laptop or another audio interface sad

Re: questions before buying fireface uc

I think more importantly is making sure your laptop has the recommended USB controller.

Re: questions before buying fireface uc

ICH8 should work - even on older laptops (see our tested systems list). But only a real test can show how your special notebook performs with the UC.
