Topic: Newbie needs help

Hi, just got an RME  Fireface 800, and do not understand how Total Mix works with audio editing software like Reaper, Logic, or Cubase.
Is there something like Total Mix for Dummies?  I'd like to learn from the most basic level imaginable.  Sort of, this how you connect the
dots......

Right now I am trying to learn this and Reaper at the same time.

All I want to accomplish at this point is to record 4 tracks simultaneously, using 4 mics.  Two acoustic guitars, one vocal, one acoustic/electric bass guitar.

Thanks!

Re: Newbie needs help

Here are our video tutorials to TotalMix.

best regards
Knut

Re: Newbie needs help

Thanks Knut but even that is too advanced for me.  I don't understand how Total Mix works with DAW software.  The tutorial does not address this.
Thanks.

You don't need TM for that.

Just connect your mics, choose the right input channels, set the input gain with the knobs on the FF and record :-)

Re: Newbie needs help

Thanks Alex.  What do you mean by "choose the right input channels"?  In Total Mix, or in the DAW software?  Do I turn Total Mix off, or just ignore it?

Sorry for being so clueless, everyone has to start somewhere.....

Re: Newbie needs help

Just choose the input channels in the DAW(the inputs on the FF you connect your mics too).

And don't forget to set the tracks you are recording too, to mono :-)

Re: Newbie needs help

Thanks, I'll give it go.

Do you have an external analog mixer? With faders, mic preamps and aux sends? TotalMix has no real faders and the mixer is just a chip inside the interface but works with the DAW software like a classic mixer.

Re: Newbie needs help

Thanks, now I understand the concept.  Can Total Mix be turned off/bypassed, or are the signals always routed through Total Mix?

Re: Newbie needs help

Signals are always routed through TotalMix, but not altered in the default mixer setup.
