Topic: Clockin problems

Hi,

I'm trying to use world clock for the first time and not without challenges...:)

I want to clock fireface 800 with apogee psx-100 converter and api AD preamp/converter. I have installed world clock cable from fireface world clock output to apogee psx-100 world clock input and with t connector to api A ad...

It seems like everything is working. E.g. when I change sample rate from ff800 it changes apogees sample rate as well. I have ff800 as a master clock in the preferences. But the thing is that there is no sync led on. And from preferences dialogue it shows that no world clock is detected....

What might be the problem?

Re: Clockin problems

Hi Simo,

Since the FF800 settings dialog only shows the sync status for the input, Word Clock will not show sync in your configuration. How are the PSX-100 and API connected to the FF800 otherwise (ADAT, SPDIF)?

thanks for the reply. Api is connected via spdif and apogee via adat.

Re: Clockin problems

And to add what I have written... I just realized that if I insert world clock cable to api A 2d I will loose spdif connection somehow. So I am not able to record from api to daw. It almost seems like api will shut down the spdif connection if world clock signal is present. To me it makes no sense at all...

Re: Clockin problems

You must have only one device set to internal (master) clock. Other digital devices must be set to external (slave). Please report back with your clock settings for the FF800, API, and PSX-100 so we can help find the error.

How do you set device like API A 2D to slave when there is no controls for this. From FF800 worldclock output cable goes to Apogee psx-100 worldclock input and via t connector it goes to the API A 2D. In the preferences dialogue of FF800 clock is master and pref. sync is world clock....

Re: Clockin problems

The A2D has to be master - the "Super Clock" input is not compatible to standard Word Clock. Set the FF800 to AutoSync, and set Pref Sync Ref. to the A2D input (SPDIF In).

In order to sync the PSX-100, make sure you have 2 ADAT cables connected - FF out to PSX in, PSX out to FF in. Then the PSX can sync to ADAT input. Alternately, you can use WC cable from the FF to the PSX for sync, and connect a 75 ohm termination load to the other end of your T-connector (in place of the cable currently run to the A2D).

Then FF800 will sync to the A2D, the PSX-100 will sync to the FF800, and both inputs (ADAT & SPDIF) should show Sync in the FF800 settings.

I did as you suggested... but it won't help. I put the autosync on and hooked up ff800 with api a2d via spdif -everything runned smoothly but as soon as I plug in the psx100 via adat the adat sync led just starts to blink... if I change the preferred clock source to adat then psx-100 if fine but then the spdif starts to blink and looses sync...

So I cannot get both the spdif and adat synced at the same time... What to try next?
