Topic: undecided between Fireface 400 and UC

Hi All,

I'm about to make my choice in about 2 days

i work on an aluminium iMac from lat 2008, the benefits from buying the fireface UC would be that I wouldn't have any firewire issue and that I would be able to use my firewire port for a dsp device (liquidmix, duende, powercore etc.), though on the other end I'm not a big fan of USB sound devices as my first interface some year ago was USB and it caused me so many problems...I nkow the fireface UC is a whole other beast but it still leaves me with some doubts


somebody has some feedback for me? any performance difference between 400 and UC?

Please check your FireWire chipset before. It will probably not work.

ok, thanks for the reply, i knew about firewire problems with agere chipsets

i did the same procedure suggested by S-E Hansson on the link you posted and mine says:

kernel firewire (OHCI) LUCENT ID 5901

i don't know what that means, but i guess it's not a TI chipset...

i've read several threads regarding this issue but it's still not clear to me as somebody says he has no probme with lucent 5901, others say they need the lindy cable and some others say they resolve it only through HD daisychaining...

Please read the linked thread. There are two revisions of the lucent chipset. Rev. 6 does not work. iMac 2008 is built with Rev. 6.

ok, yes, i read about the revisions but i just coldn't understand the concept, now it believe it's quite clear, so i think i'm going to have to go for the UC
