Topic: sudden recording troubles with fireface 800

hi,
i never had a single problem with my fireface 800 for the last 5 years.
yesterday i turned on my setup ,started recording and got some kind of "overload cracks/buzz" along with the signal.
i  checked my imput level but it was around -20db,and all my outboards, preamps out levels and stuff are calibrated and un-tweeked for the last 3 years.
i tried each analog imput with different sources :same problem.
listening to VST instruments tracks or older projects was fine though.
i tested my PC ram : ok
i updated the drivers/firmware but no result.
tried on a different computer (mac) and got the same issue.

after rebooting a few times the fireface and my computer the "cracks/buzz" suddently disapeared.
tried again this morning and same dreadfull cracks.
pretty strange considering that my studio setup has not change for the last 3 years .

any ideas?
thanks,
Damien.

Well, equipment does fail sometimes!  Maybe the power supply's giving up on your 800.

Sure there's nothing you haven't told us?  Firmware or driver updates, perhaps?

nope,i was using the same drivers / firmwares for the last 3 years without any glitch.
installing the newer drivers / firmwares didn't change a thing .

Did you check your firewire cable?

It once happened to me that the FW cable was the culprit when my FF800 was showing the same symptoms.

Good luck!
