Topic: Latency

hi there,
i have some questions about my fireface UC.
my system is as follows:
acer aspire x1810
quadcore q8200
4GB ram
ati radeon hd 4350
running on vista home premium 64 bit with ableton live 8.

i would love to have a low latency as possible but i am not able to get below 6.5ms which disappoints me quite a lot.
when i set my project to 48khz i have to set the buffer to at least 96 to get no clicks od distortion but then i already have 20% cpu use what really makes it hard to work on a larger project. if i set the buffer to 128 samples i have a cpu load of 14%.

my system is perfectly clean with nothing but windows with sp1 and ableton running. i thought with this system and the wonderful fireface uc more power (latency) should be possible. i went through the forum and did my research but only found some help regarding windows xp. i would be very glad if someone could give me some help to improve my system as i use it for live looping bass and guitar aswell for realtime miditracking of the instruments where low latency is important.

if you need anymore information please ask me.

thank you in advice!

Re: Latency

USB interfaces do incure more CPU usage, it is the nature of the beast.

If you have access to different software, give it a try.  My Studio One software just doesn't like the RME UC it's impossible to do anything at the lowest sample rates, yet Cubase is just fine.

PS) RME staff, would it be possible to send the Presonus Studio One devs some helpful hints on how to get their software to work better with your hardware.  I know I would really appreciate it.

Re: Latency

oh my god - my mistake! i had izotope ozone in the masterbus what caused the "extra latency". so problem solved. anyway if anybody knows how to setup vista in a powerful way please tell me. becaus what makes my wonder is that if i set my project to 196khz and to the lowest buffer i have 200% cpu load causing weird distortion.

have a nice day!

Re: Latency

Buffers are actually smaller when you increase the sample rate, don't use the extremely low buffers with extremely high sample rates.
