Topic: Firewire 800 problem under Windows 7 64 bits

Hi there,

I've recently changed my portable configuration and now I'm running a Dell M11X under Windows 7 64 bits but I have a problem using my Fireface 800.

I've tried to install the latest Windows driver as described with success, but I have some issues running my stand alone programs (Native Instruments Komplete 6 and Overloud TH-1) and also my VST instruments using the Cockos Reaper DAW.

I've got a lot of clicks, pops, buzz, hums etc. that makes impossible the playing and the recording even at 1024 buffer size.HeadScratch

Less is the buffer size more I have the problem (at 128 it's impossible to play).ed:

I'm using the same Fireface 800 with two Macintosh and the same software at home and I have no problem at all.ed:

If you have any solutions to propose, please just let me know.:-)

Best regards from France,

Blue2you

Most likely there are some issues with the system drivers, typically WiFi is the worst offender.

Thanks Jeff,

I've disabled the WiFi and the problem persist.HeadScratch

I'll check the entire list tomorrow.:-)

Re: Firewire 800 problem under Windows 7 64 bits

I've checked (disabled) the entire list of hardware (one by one) and the problem persist.ed:
I have a maximum drop outs at 4000 :roll and I can't use the RATTV3 of Microsoft, because of the 64bits.
I've changed also five firewire cables.HeadScratch
I think I'll change my laptop.

Re: Firewire 800 problem under Windows 7 64 bits

This is almost for sure your Firewire IRQ being shared with Graphic Card IRQ.
I dont know if this is your case but you will have to check that.
That happened to me on a HP Dv9082eu and to solve that i bought a Express card Firewire controller with Texas instruments Chipset. This express card gets its own IRQ and from that day on all my problems are far away... The only problem is that the express card lock in the plug is kinda loose, and it kills your system if you remove this card when Windows is running. The drivers get crazy and there you get an unstable System.
At that time (3 years ago) almost every PC Laptop were sharing IRQ between firewire port and Graphic Card, so its highly probable that changing laptop won't solve your problem once the risk of getting this share is high.

Google how to see the IRQ List. i cant remember the command you need to write in RUN. maybe something like Msconfig...

Thanks for your reply.:/
May be you are right.
By changing the laptop I mean buying a Macintosh not a PC.:-)
I'll let you know.

Re: Firewire 800 problem under Windows 7 64 bits

Im pretty sure the moderators know what im talking about when im saying you should take a look on the IRQs. Its a command you need to type in RUN and you get the list of devices and their IRQs. Maybe they can hep in this field telling you which file you need to RUN.
Cheers and good luck!
Or you can do that in Device Manager Aswell...
Google "How know irq devices" Or something like that.

Changing the computer is your best chance. Dell notebooks are typically unsuitable for audio production.

Use this one instead: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/140263- … interrupt/

Re: Firewire 800 problem under Windows 7 64 bits

heh Timur, I see you still recommend this thing.
Has it ever ended up pointing you to anything other than NDIS.sys ?
