Topic: Laptop Recommendation for HDSPe MadiFace

I need to configure a basic laptop recording and playback system. Primary use will be multitrack playback. In a perfect world i would like to continue to stay with PC Laptop-preferably Levono since that way i only have to carry one laptop that can deal with both business stuff and recording.

IF there doesn't seem to be a Levono that will work then I would probably lean towards a Mac with express card slot (i think 15" ones still have Express card). Will continue to look through forum for recommendations and do more searches but have limited time to research.

Appreciate any help the forum can provide

Lenonvo wont work.
the MBP 15 does not have an Express slot only the 17"

Hello,
If you end up going the Mac route, as Scott mentioned, only the 17" has the expresscard port.  We've used the MadiFace several times on two different MBP 17" generations, one running Nuendo and the other running Logic.  Works very well recording 64 tracks to an external firewire drive.  I tried to get it to choke by doing a long test recording chasing code while getting mail and internet surfing via wireless and it worked great.

Can you be more specific on the MBP 17" models you are using and OSX / driver / firmware versions? It seems that a number of other users were having problems to make the MBP work

that's not really true, as you can read in the following topic:

i also had problems with a lenovo R400 and the Madiface, but a BIOS update and setting the PCI Express power management from "automatic" to "disabled" fixed the problem and now, the Lenovo works perfectly well.

The Lenovo laptops are said to have good BIOS support for ec/34

The three Sony laptops I tested, work properly

Toshiba failed, 50% of Dell laptops I tested failed.

So - I would focus on Lenovo & Sony
