sorry
I normally in holland, work with a fireface 800, with a 800 to 400 fireware cable into a 1364 firewire pci card into my normal desktop.
For the recordings here in isreal the band bought me a laptop.
Yet the laptop only has usb, and the 1394 firewire input (this kinda: http://rocky.digikey.com/weblib/Assmann … 94-184.jpg the smaller one)
I now attempted to hook up my fireface by a firewire 400 to 1394 adapter, but it wont recognize it yet, as will it recognize any device.
What can be the problem?
Hope its clear now Thanks a bunch for taking the time and the swift reaction!
Greet, JB.
There is no difference between "400" and "1394", both is Firewire... This should work. What kind of laptop is this, does it run XP or W7 or something else?

Windows 7.
Maybe drivers for the 1394 port?
And yeah, i figured, but there is no difference between 1364 and 1394 next to the connector size?
Windows 7.

Allright, i allready tried and checked again, but it stops for me at:
- The device is shown with a yellow warning symbol. Usually it is already found in the correct category, Sound, Video and Game Controller (Plug & Play detects a multimedia device). The Fireface UC is even shown with its correct name.
Its not there, i dont see anything added anyway.
Could it be a problem with my firewire port?
Dont think its a TI FW, laptop info says
Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller.
Problem with that perhaps?
The chipset should normally not affect detection/installation. Any other cable or computer to test this with?

Its not complying with both a harddrive on 400, or the fireface, on 2 laptops.
But i have a hard time believing its the cable aswell...
Ill check out a compu shop maybe for a different cable to make sure.
Weird problem...
Just heard about more problems with this chipset.
Is it doable to hook up the fireface to a windows 7 loaded laptop with a firewire to Usb adaptor?
FW to USB adapters do not work. Now I am not sure that you really use a FW to USB cable. The pic seems to show a FW cable 4 pin to 6 pin, which is FW to FW...
I wasnt using USB to FW, but asked if it was possible, but good to know that is ruled out then.
The cable i have here is a (if look at it) indeed a 6 pin (which is in my ff800) to 4 pin (to my laptop), that should work right?
I guess its windows 7 being a bitch about this/drivers.
I allready switched to the older legacy drivers.
Still no seeing the ff800
