Topic: moving from PC to macbook pro with multiface

Dear Forum Users,

After reading a few posts here I'm slightly concerned about moving over to a mac system. I currently work on a desktop pc (Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz with 1G ram) with a duplicate portable system on a an Dell Inspiron6000 (1.6GHz 1G RAM Pentium M). As a lot of my work is in the theatre I need a system that's portable, my thoughts being that a macbook pro could take over from my current 2 PC's. I would use a large flatscreen when working in the studio.

I have been happily using my multiface (1) for many years now (using PCMCIA card with the laptop) and I would love to keep the card as the hub of  this new set-up. Am I right in saying that to make this work I would need to buy an express card at ?300, and even then the express card slot only exists on the new 17" macbook (which is out of my price range)? Ideally I'd like to stick with RME without having the fuss of any cards or adaptors, can anyone suggest an alternative (Fireface400?), or correct me if I'm completely mistaken. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has made a similar move recently as I would rather not spend a lot of money for something that wasn't any better than what I already have in PC land.

Any information would be gratefully received.
Cheers, Scott

Re: moving from PC to macbook pro with multiface

either get the 17" MBP or a known working PC laptop that has an Express slot then buy the Express card for the Multiface.

aside from that switch to Fireface 400/800/ UC/UFX

Cheers Scott...I'm moving towards getting the MBP 13" and the fireface.
