Topic: Firewire or USB?

Sorry,
I m new on this forum and my english is really poor!
I m looking for buying a fireface sound card and I don't
know what is the most efficient protocol for soundcards:
USB 2, Firewire or PCIe? I need very stable machine and
drivers and very low latency.
I've heard that USB is less fast than firewire and take more
CPU. Is that real?

And Also, with the Firewire 800
Is that real that I can use both of the rear inputs jacks 7-8
and the the front mics 7-8 inputs at the same time?

Thank You

Re: Firewire or USB?

PCIe is the most efficient.
USB versus Firewire is still up in the air (at least RME wise) as they refine their new audio core, although you can get theoretically lower latencies using USB, with the current drivers.
Yes Inputs 7-8 can use both front and rear simultaneously.

But not independently...

Re: Firewire or USB?

thank you for your answers.
When you says "not independently", do you mean that they are mixed, or it's just for totalmix routings?
Thanks again

Re: Firewire or USB?

Mixed - i.e. you can not record front and rear to separate files.
