Topic: Clean Monitoring but Distorted Recording with FF400 and Ableton

Hello,

I am a total newbie to using RME products. I purchased the Fireface 400 and am having issues with my input signal and could use a little help.

Issue:
Using My Headphones (Sony MDR-V6) i hear a clean signal speaking/singing into the mic (monitoring over headphones Ch.7/8 Front). The recording then sounds very distorted when played back. The Music Playback stays good and clean. So i assume there is something wrong with my input routing maybe.

I am using Ableton Live 8.2.1 with a Neumann TLM 102 direct into Front Mic 1 (FF400)

I am running OSX 10.6.4 and have installed the latest driver FF400 2.87 for MAC. (Firmware Tool showed Up-To-Date too)

Fireface Settings:

1 Mic Phantom Power on / level +25
Analogue Outputs
1-6 +4dB
7-8 Phones -10dBV

Matrix and Mixer

Any Help would be much appreciated!

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Clean Monitoring but Distorted Recording with FF400 and Ableton

Something must be wrong with Ableton settings. If everything is fine while monitoring input, and playing back general audio, it should be a software issue.

Can you try a different recorder (Garage Band, or Reaper maybe) to see how that works?

Thanks very much for the quick reply Jeff!

I will continue to test different software settings too.

If there is anybody using Ableton with FF400 too, i would be more than happy to know about your settings.

Many Thanks!
