Topic: Fireface 400 seems Ok but unable to get sound

Hello,

although my unit has been working fine for several years under XP and now Win7 (x64), a few weeks ago I started to have problems with programs (Cubase, Reaper, NI Traktor, foobar2000) unable to output any sound. First it was the ASIO driver that seemed to refuse to play, then I was unable to get any output from DirectX drivers also.

Here are the detailed symptoms:
The host led goes from red to off when windows boots, the driver is loaded as indicated in device manager, the driver panel and Totalmix show up, the buttons on the Fireface control faders, but when I press play, the program just refuses to start playback (it doesn't freeze or crash).
I've disabled all windows sounds, even disactivated the ff400 channels in the windows audio mixer to be sure no program tries to access them, but still, no playback ...
Also when I plug in a source into an input, I can see signal on the Totalmix channel.
[Edit] Strangely enough, if I launch Digicheck and select 'Hardware level' in 'Input device setup', I can monitor signals, but if check 'ASIO' i can't.
This seems to confirm my suspicion my problem lies with the ASIO part, and that the hardware/firewire is fine.

I'm using a Gigabyte MB with a TI firewire chipset (also tried changing FW drivers to no avail), with firmware 1.70 (reflashed to be sure too, just in case) and driver 3.021 under Win7-64.

I don't understand what happened. Should I try rolling back to a previous driver version ?
Is there a way one can diagnose such errors like looking in the Windows event log, an ASIO driver log or something else ?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Fireface 400 seems Ok but unable to get sound

I think I found the culprit: my Bios had reset some settings, notably AMD Cool'n'quiet which was on (plus some others). Turning it to off seems to have resolved the problem.
