Topic: Best laptop for Fireface 800?

I'm here again :-)

After this I decided to look for a new laptop to be used with my Fireface 800 for live recording and other.

My little preferences are:
* Processor Intel Core i7 series (i7-720 QM or which one?)
* 4 GB Ram or more
* 17" Monitor

I think a Mac would be the best choice but it's also so expensive, do u know if there are alternatives for using the FF at the best? How can I search any laptop with a good firewire chipset?

Please, lead me in the choice and gimme all your opinions! :-)

BTW I chose to buy this laptop for use with a KRAUN Firewire Express Card (italian link):

ASUS N71JQ-TY053V
* Intel Core i7-720QM
* 4 GB RAM DDR3
* 2x 500 GB HD SATA 7200 Rpm
* 17" Widescreen
* USB 3.0 support
* One Express Card slot
* Other stuff like ATI video card, wifi, lan 1 Gbps etc.

I'm also looking for a good laptop to work with FF800, so i wanted to know first hand experiences.

Hi Morenight,
currently I have delayed this purchase cause I tried my FF800 with the above express card (with TI Chipset) on my Hp-1144el laptop and it worked well for my needs!

I think you can get great performance with mid-high level laptop, but you need ALWAYS a firewire with TI chipset: it's hard to know before buying a laptop, so my advice is to take a laptop with an express card slot (and not pcmcia, express card --> more speed) and to take a firewire express card with true chipset (ask to your trusted dealer or try it directly to the store before purchasing)

HP-1144el specs:
* Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.50 Ghz
* 4 GB RAM DDR2-800
* 1 320 GB HD SATA 7200 Rpm
* 15.4" Widescreen
* One Express Card slot
* Integrated mini firewire with JMICRON Chipset --> BAD PERFORMANCE
* Other stuff like Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT video card, wifi, lan 1 Gbps etc.
