Topic: 3x Micstasy + 1x AD-16 / DA-16 96k MADI Setup

I'm using a pair of AD/DA-16 as my main converters and add a portable rack of 24 Micstasy preamps when I need the additional input channels. Is there a way to just use the first 8 AD/DA-16 channels when adding the 3 Micstasy units, so I can work in 88.2/96k without loosing 8 Micstasy channels over MADI?

thanks!
Christoph

Sorry, no. There is no way to change the M-16 to not use all its channels.

Allright (that's what I figured so far), thanks for the quick answer.

If I use the AD-16 as the last device in the chain, would I be able to address the first 8 channels of the unit in double speed mode? (Can't test that at the moment)

cheers, Christoph

Re: 3x Micstasy + 1x AD-16 / DA-16 96k MADI Setup

If you set the M-16 AD to ch 1-16, then daisy chain to Micstasy 1 (set to ID#2), then Micstasy 2 (ID#3), then Micstasy 3 (ID#4) - Micstasy 1 (ID#2) should overwrite the channels 9-16 of the M-16 AD in the MADI stream. That would leave you with 1-8 (M-16 AD), 9-16 (Micstasy 1), 17-24 (Micstasy 2), 25-32 (Micstasy 3).

Please correct me if it's wrong!

The AD-16 will always use channels 1-32 or 33-64 in Double Speed mode.

I'll give that another try when I'm back at the studio - many thanks!

Thanks Jeff, your solution works perfectly! In case anybody else has the same problem here's the setup once again: HDSPe MADI out -> RME DA16 -> RME AD16 -> Micstasy 1-3 (ID #2-4) -> HDSPe MADI in. Even have an ADI8DS connected to the ADATs (in option mode) on the Micstasy for Foldback.

Thanks Jeff & MC!

If you want to write a short user experience, describing the setup and the practical usage, with some more information about your studio (e. g. including a link to your website), you can publish it here: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5927
