Topic: Fireface 800 and MacPro

I've just gotten the FF800 and also just upgraded from a PPC-G5 to a MacPro.

The firewire cable that came with the RME is FW400, the MacPro only has FW800 ports (4 of them)-  do I need a FW800 cable? or is there an adapter?

Thanks

Re: Fireface 800 and MacPro

bump????

I went and bought a FW800 cable as well as a FW400x800 cable, tried them separately, together. It appears that only the FW400 port on the FF800 is being seen by the Mac, so I'm guessing they're for FW800 devices to be connected to the RME...looking at the manual, I see little mention of the 2 FW800 ports

Vendor 0xA35 Device 0x101800:

  Manufacturer:    0xA35
  Model:    0x101800
  GUID:    0xA35004FB534C3
Maximum Speed:    Up to 800 Mb/sec
Connection Speed:    Up to 400 Mb/sec
  Sub-units:
Unknown Unit:
  Unit Software Version:    0x1
  Unit Spec ID:    0xA35

I've switched ports with another FW800 device and it works fine regardless of which port I plug it in

I've reinstalled the software, repaired permissions

The FF800 is powered up (red Led -host) and green LED +4 in/out

the cables are not lose and are fully inserted

nothing???? any ideas????????

Re: Fireface 800 and MacPro

... apparently an old driver came with my unit- I connected the FF800 to my old PPC and loaded the PPC driver and there it was... so it dawned on me that perhaps it wasn't the most recent... or it was corrupted  (2.62) I've still one to go, but it shows up...
