Topic: Using FF800 on win xp and win7

I've been using a FF800 for the past 5 years on a laptop running xp. 3x64 all day long loaded up. I haven't had a problem in all these years and have never updated drivers or firmware, currently version 1.81. I would like to use the FF800 with my new win 7 64 desktop and understand I'll need to update the firmware and drivers to do this. I want to run vsti's

1. Will I have a problem swapping the FF800 between the xp and win 7 machines? The last thing I want is to lose 5 years of rock solid stability on the xp laptop.

2. If this is all ok what version firmware and driver do I need to update all the way back from 1.81 ?(install newest driver first, then firmware?)

3. If this compromises the performance on my laptop I would just buy another solution for the  win 7 desktop. Can I revert back to my original firmware and driver if this doesn't work out?

I'd be installing a TI pci express firewire card on new desktop.

Thanks,

Mike.

Re: Using FF800 on win xp and win7

1. Generally you will not have problems. According to my experince win XP are still the best for FF800 in aspects of performance and stability.
2. You will have to install firmware 2.77 first and then the latest win 7 driver 3.034.

Some of older FF800 devices crackle on headphone outputs after you install firmware 2.77. If this happens, you will have to send the unit for the "small hardware modification". Older firefaces are prone to some other problems and difficulties which will be cured at the same time.

3. Officially there is no firmware downgrade. Unofficially you can use "power off after erase" method to revert back to the firmware at the time your fireface was produced. That should also cure possible crackling problems.

To check if that unit might be affected by 'crackling' please tell us the serial number of your FF 800.

I am not sure if firmware 2.77 can be used with driver version 1.81 with full functionality...that is far too old, we never tested that. In principle it should work, as firmware 2.77 is downward compatible to the functionality of firmware 2.47. But if you used firmware 1.81 that would be on a much older state than 2.47...

This unit is not affected by crackling when updated.
