RME User Forum → HDSP(e) series → P8P67 + 3 AES32 cards + Nuendo 5 = random crashes
I just put together a new system that is giving me a huge headache. After poking around for a while I found that having more than one aes32 card installed in the system will cause random and frequent crashes.
The motherboard is a P8P67 with the latest bios.
Any ideas on what may be going on?

It appears to be directly related to "direct monitoring" Switching a track to record enable / disable a few times promptly causes the system to lock up.
Doing the same with ASIO Direct Monitoring disabled (in Nuendo) does not cause a crash? Which firmware and driver are used?
With direct monitoring disabled in the Nuendo control panel, I can work all day long without a crash. Actually, that's an exaggeration. I tested it for about 2 hours without DM and all was good.
I have 3 PCI AES32's. They have firmware 234 and I have tested with Driver 3081 and 3085.
System specs are
P8P67 (tested with original bios and latest bios available)
i7 2600K
8Gb DDR3 1600
1 sATA 3G 1TB drive (for testing purposes only)
Windows 7 x64
Nuendo 5 32bit
gforce 7900gs
(3) AES32
No other software is installed at this point, and the only other hardware insalled is the steinberg dongle and usb keyboard/mouse.
Just to repeat, this is only with multiple cards installed at one time. A single AES32 works as it should in this system.
(How) Are the cards synchronized?

The cards are being clocked externally by apogee rosetta 800's thru AES.
We will look into this.
