Topic: Babyface installation problems on Win 7 - please help!

Hello,

I am having installation issues with my new Babyface.  I followed all of the instructions, installed the drivers off the CD, then downloaded the newest drivers and firmware off the RME website and updated per the instructions in the manual.  Everything appears to be in working order (and everything says that it's in working order), but the only sound that the Babyface will produce is the Windows startup sound, and even that only comes out of the headphones, not out of my speakers.  I can't get even the test tones in the Windows sound section of the control panel to produce any sound through the Babyface, let alone my soft synths or anything in Ableton.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drives and the Babyface device several times, but there's no change.  I've tried using just the drivers and firmware included on the installation disk without updating, but that doesn't help either.  I've checked all of my Windows sound settings, made sure that the Babyface is the default sound device, etc., but nothing seems to work.  And yes, the speakers are on and connected.

Also, the jog wheel controls don't seem to be properly integrated with TotalMix FX.  When I select "Phones" on the Babyface it controls the "Main" levels in TotalMix.  When I select "Out" on the Babyface it controls "AN 1" in TotalMix (even though I though that should control the Mains, as that is the line out to my speakers).

Systems specs are as follows:

PC, Intel i7 2.8, ASUS motherboard.  Not sure if you need anything else.

This is extraordinarily frustrating, as I coughed up the extra dough for the Babyface precisely to avoid these sorts of problems.  Please help!

Thanks,
Rusty

It's Win 7 64, btw.

Hi Rusty,

I am not an expert, but if this helps you before someone else responds...

You need to control volume (at least, it's the case in my setup) in the TotalMix application.  My setup might be different from yours, but the TotalMix AN 1/2 slider should be adjusted if you haven't done so already.  If it is all the way at the bottom, you are not likely to get sound out of your speakers.  Speaking of speakers, presumably you've connected your speakers to your XLR connectors, unless you are using the optional unbalanced breakout cable.

Click the "Assign" button on the Main output section, and select AN 1+2 for Mains, that should fix the jog wheel issue.

Do you see audio in TM when playing the tones or audio? Which channels in the middle row? The "Speakers" device in Windows 7 Control Panel/Sound correlates to Out 1+2 in the Babyface.

*facepalm*

It was a TM assign/volume issue.  Thanks for the assistance, guys!  The Babyface sounds GREAT!  And since I got my act together with TM, everything has smooth and easy to operate.
