Topic: daisy-chaining FW800 HD with RME UFX ok?

Trying to figure out an express card 34 purchase, so I need to know ahead of time if daisy chaining  a hard drive and the UFX into a FW800 port on a new Macbook Pro is in spec.

I know the manual says a dedicated USB port is needed, but it was unclear about the FW.  This worked in the past with my Motu 828mkii.

Can someone confirm?

Anyone use a FW hard drive and the RME on the same bus?

My UFX is due anyday.  I , of course, can experiment.

But, can anyone tell me if it is standard practice to daisy-chain an RME with a hard drive on a FW800 bus?

thanks

Re: daisy-chaining FW800 HD with RME UFX ok?

You need to connect the FW800 cable to the HDD, and then connect the UFX to the HDD using a FW400 cable. The speed HDD to Computer will automatically reduced to FW400 even though it is a FW800 cable, and you may run into trouble recording the 30 channels of the UFX on the HDD that is in between, so it's safer to bypass it (record to internal disk) first and then use the external disk for backup after the recording.
