Topic: Left my Fireface 800 on for a week !

Hi

I left my Fireface 800 on for a week while I was travelling - I've switched it off.

any concerns about how long I should leave it off for ?

I'm stressed about leaving it on for so long and doing some damage to the unit

Any guidance would be great

Hi Dean,

I have heard that turning gear on and off is actually the worst thing we ever do to our beloved boxes.
It seems that every time we turn on and off we stress many electronic components as surges of current and spikes of voltage are regulated to a greater or lesser degree by the design of the circuit. Many studio mixing desks never get turned off, unless for service.
RME designs are known to be super stable so I would suggest that you have not hurt your FF800 in the slightest unless it is in a very poorly ventilated area or if it was extremely hot.
I believe you are safe to turn it back on as soon as you like.

Thanks for this - I love the unit and just couldnt believe I was that absent minded to miss turning it off before I left for Singapore for a week.
