Topic: Avid's Artist Control as a hardware control for Fireface Mixer? FF400

Hi,

I am running PT9 along FF400. Am getting more and more work in audio post. Put together LCR for start, would like to have a volume control.
I was thinking either SPL SMC, or even better Avid's Artist Control (ex. Euphonix McControl).
Does anybody know is it possible to use it/programme the AC with fireface mixer. I would liek to have the mute and solo buttons inside FFmixer programmed.

I know this is not the real analoge way to go, but i would get the 4 faders alng, which would come in handy when doing basic leveling inside PT9.

ANybody with similar ideas on how to use it?

I think Artist Series are mainly aimed at controlling Pro Tools 9 / Logic 9 / DAWs that take HUI control surfaces --- AC isn't really aimed at directly controlling any hardware directly like RME FF400.   I guess if if TotalMix could be controlled by HUI controllers (not sure if it can, I'm not sure as I'm new to RME) you could control the RME that way -- otherwise AC is just controlling faders/channels in your DAW.   Take what I say w/ a grain of salt as I'm saving for my own AC.  wink

Still thinking of getting the AC to control my Totalmix.
I upgraded now to UFX, and am looking for ways to control surround inside the totalmix and automation inside PT, without having to buy an analog volume control and digital desk.

Hi,
You can easily control surround with the Total Mix FX by using Fader Groups.
If you assign the Main out as part of the surround Fader Group then you can control the volume using either the volume Knob on the front of the UFX or using the RME Advanced Remote Controller.

The Artist series supports Mackie Control so it "should" work. I do not know anyone using it though so I can not confirm.

Personally I think it will be easier to use the front panel Knob or the ARC if all you need to do is access the Total Mix FX Control Room section.
You won't have to constantly be switching back and forth on the Artist this way.

Thanks Chris
