Topic: ff800 suddenly emitting high pitched noise

hi everyone,

there is a problem with my fireface800:
out of a sudden yesterday the unit started to emit a very high-pitched noise ( a bit like tinnitus )
i tried to disconnect everything but the headphones, the noise still remains.
i even tried with a different power-supply-cable. nothing changed.
tried different buffer-sizes, with no success.
also i noticed some "rattling" noises ( thru the headphones ) that were clearly connected to the computers activity, like they were getting louder when i started a program or was scrolling. these noises werent present in all the years before.

i own this unit for years, maybe 6 or 7, could this be because of "normal" abrasion? i recently changed the layout of my studio a bit so the last few months the fireface was getting a bit hotter than before because another unit was mounted in the rack close/above to the fireface ( hence a bit less air circulation/cooling)

any help will be very much appreciated, thank you.

if it is of concern: i m on windows XP

Re: ff800 suddenly emitting high pitched noise

i guess it is a power supply problem.

Re: ff800 suddenly emitting high pitched noise

thank you for your reply.

i agree, it seems to be a power-supply problem, but since the ff800 has no external power-supply that has to be the power-supply INSIDE the ff800, right?
what can i do to get this fixed?
will i have to send the unit to rme/synthax or will the standard electrician round the corner be able to repair it ( since its "only" the power supply )?

thanks for helping!
