Topic: FF400 - Problems with TRS connector in input 1

Hi,

I have plugged a TRS balanced jack in input 1 of my FireFace 400 and when I have tried to unplug it I have found it was stuck into the combo connector. I have finally have unplugged the jack pulling it with much strength, but now the socket for the TRS has became very loose and the male connector doesn't fasten anymore to the socket. But the most serious problem is that the TRS connector of the input 1 doesn't transmit signal anymore! I have noticed that also connecting a TRS  jack with Amphenol connector to input 2 then it's hard to unplug it. I have bought the unit new only few months and used a balanced jack in input 1 for the first time yesterday…What could I do? Please give me your support .

Thank you in advance,

Leonardo

Re: FF400 - Problems with TRS connector in input 1

Hi,

I have already read the thread you have linked, thanks, but my situation is a bit different: the combo female connector of input 1 doesn't fasten any TS or TRS cables after I have pulled out a jack that was stuck into the socket. The result is that there is no signal anymore with any TS or TSR plugged in input 1! It seems like the socket's connections are damaged. I'm not a technician and as simple user I ask if there's any simple operation that I can do to restore the situation or is the case to  bring the unit to a local support specialist.

First you should throw away the cable with the TRS jack that you used. Then bring the unit to service as the XLR combo socket has to be replaced.

Re: FF400 - Problems with TRS connector in input 1

I have to admit that the male connector wasn't of the highest quality (it was an adaptor for a mini jack) but I needed in that moment and have plugged it without thinking...
Do you think the warranty will cover the replacement?

Thanks anyway!

Leonardo.

I doubt so, sorry. There is a reason we use Neutrik sockets. If it breaks like here you can be sure some cheapo out-of-spec jack was in action.

Re: FF400 - Problems with TRS connector in input 1

It would be useful to know which are the specs for the jacks to avoid future inconveniences... smile The next week I will bring the unit to the support center, hope well! I will update you.

Cheers,

Leonardo.

Hi,

I had the same problem with a 1/4" jack stuck in FF400.

The 2nd pic is the jack stuck in the unit from the inside (sorry for picture quality), to get it out I prized the golden piece of metal below the jack down and the jack could be slipped out easily, I tested the 400 and it works just fine.

Thanks

Al

I am constantly amazed at the difference between TS jack plugs! I would recommend sticking with nuetrik connectors. I have had situations (non RME) where some wouldn't work at all and others got stuck!
