Says don't do it in the manual? What do you think, is it severe risk of cracks etc.?

Using (trying to use..) my audio system as monitoring system via spdif - and to use with listening to music.

Make sure that no Windows system-sound starts playing while you are working. Easiest way to do that it to turn off the RME as default device while you are working.

If you feel insecure about this it shows that you are better off going the secure way. If you feel like you are in control of your system, just leave it as default device and see for yourself if things work out.
