Topic: Monitor controller of Fireface UFX: analog or digital?

Can somebody please tell me, if the monitor controller of the UFX works in the digital section or is it (which I'd like) a potentiometer after the D/A conversion?
If it's in the digital section, I guess at low volumes the sound resolution would suffer?

Cheers, kind regards,
Klaus

Digital. Read the FAQ entry for more details on this.

Dear Jeff,

Thank you very much for the link.
I'm sorry to bother you again, but I'm afraid I haven't understood all of it: While I find the statements on
analogous volume control comprehensible, I'm at a loss with the statement that the loss of bit resolution
is only theoretical. If you reduce the range of values by turning the volume down, there should be a loss
of information (in a digital part), shouldn't it? Or are there measures taken against that? I could imagine
that this should be possible (if somehow you manage to allow intermediary values after squeezing the data
into a smaller range of values)?

Cheers & best regards,
Klaus

Either analog or digital attenuation has the same effect at the end. The quietest audio is lost in the noise floor. When you attenuate by 6dB, you are not using that bit any longer, anyway.

In other words, if you can't hear it, it's gone.
