Topic: AIO Ordering nightmare

Hi there,

I ordered RME AIO card from frontendaudio.com and was supposed to receive it before Christmas. After some unanswered emails I finally got someone on the phone and they told me that it is impossible to get optional - balanced cable- and it is supposed to be shipped from China and it cannot be done before February.  WOW….

Can somebody tell me why would anyone even want to get AIO without balanced out? Why is it optional? It is like buying a Rolls-Royce with the wheels that are optional.

Anyhow, it is an emergency here and I need to know what would be the best (FASTESTS) way to get this “Balanced” option.

Thanks you

Re: AIO Ordering nightmare

This part is not available in North America currently. We have been trying to get these for some time now, expected delivery is February. Sorry for the inconvenience, you are not the only one waiting.

Re: AIO Ordering nightmare

Hi Jeff,

Been trapped in the wonderful company of other hopefuls is a very comforting feeling. As much as I enjoy the shiny sprit of the “others” I decided to get a channel line converter that will allow me to use Unbalanced Out of RME AIO.

I just hope that the package won’t arrive locked in a treasure chest that would require magical powers of Gandalf to be unlocked.

Best,

Wish I saw this thread last week....

Just wondering if your balanced breakout cable ever arrived?

I just ordered a HDSPe AIO from Saved by Technology in Toronto.

Naturally, it wasn't in stock... hmm ...and he wasn't able to tell me when it would be in.

He called Music Marketing, but as of yesterday (friday) had not heard back from them.

I'm getting the same sinking feeling the last time I tried to buy an RME 9632 a few years ago and nearly got ripped off with very old used stock sold as new.

I'm starting to believe that RME in Canada is a colossal bad joke.
Canada seems to be the ugly stepchild locked in the attic because the distributors RME hooks up with (Synthax and Music Marketing) seem to be entirely incompetent.

If I don't hear some good information on Monday (or god forbid they tell me the balanced cable has been outsourced to Pluto and will be in stock first thing in 2135), I'll cancel my order and consider RME for Canada to be a completely lost cause.
And I will make it my personal aggressive campaign to poison the minds of anyone and everyone I encounter about RME.
Maybe I'll even start a vitriolic blog about it.

This ain't funny anymore.
Once burned, twice vengeful. sad

That was along time ago, the breakout cable is available now. I can't say whether MM has one in stock or not...

When you say "available" on what level do you mean?

If even the Canadian distributor doesn't have one in stock, having to get it from the U.S. or Deutschland is, for all intents and purposes, "unavailable".

If MM doesn't have it, I could probably knit myself an AIO and breakout cable faster than one will make it to me.

One of the main reasons I'm so ticked about all this is, that none of the Canadian dealers I visited last week had a single item of RME gear.
Nothing.
Not even old demo gear on the sales floor.
I drove hell's half acre to several Long & McQuades and also Cosmo Music...

Perhaps SBT had other RME stuff in stock, I don't know.
I smartened up about carting my butt around and contacted them by phone about the AIO...which was out.

What's unnerving is this is the same circumstance I encountered years ago.

I think perhaps it's time RME save potential users some aggravation by having their Canadian dealers specifically indicate on their web sites etc, that they don't actually stock RME products, but do have the ability to special order them.

And another thing...

In agreement with the original poster, what is the logic behind supplying RME interfaces with anything other than balanced breakout cabling?
Who wants such an interface with unbalanced connections?
Any one who doesn't understand the purpose of balanced lines is going to happy as a pig in sh*t with their onboard mobo audio - they're not going to be shopping RME's.
I checked my original post - it's dated July 14 2007.
In almost 4 years, RME still has a policy of supplying an unbalanced breakout and forcing users to order the balanced breakout as an accessory.

Really, RME?
Really?!

*sigh*

Why don't you just call Music Marketing directly on Monday and ask them about availability?

Yep.

Yesterday, I e-mailed the MM sales rep, and will follow up with calls tomorrow.

But this is the systemic problem I'm trying to point out to RME...

Customers aren't supposed to have to leap frog over dealers and badger distributors to get information on product availability.

I'm having to actually do work to give RME my money.

Wtf? Not good.

I suppose this all comes down to the Canada having a supply system corresponding to it's commercial significance to RME.
Then it's all a matter of economics for RME, but also a catch-22.

The cable you need is currently in stock in Canada at Music Marketing and can be purchased through an  authorized Canadian RME Reseller. You can find the list of Resellers near you via the "Show Dealers" link at http://www.musicmarketing.ca/mm8prod3.php?bbb=RME

Dear Qu Be,

I recently joined Music Marketing as the RME Product Specialist for Canada. I'm sorry to hear of your frustrating past experience when purchasing RME Products in Canada. i offer the following response.

Your HDSP 9632 issues occurred prior to Music Marketing's distribution of RME products in Canada. Distributors are only as strong as the rest of the system within they work.

Electronics equipment manufacturers saw the lead time for electronic component procurement double from 2009 to 2010. This has delayed production schedules for all manufacturers including RME and delivery schedules for all Distributors including Music Marketing. None of us benefit from having to wait longer to receive products (and payments). This is why product availability and our ability to fill back orders has been significantly delayed. This delay is basically beyond our collective control.

Music Marketing has one HDSPe AIO balanced cable in stock at this time, and when it sells we will be in a back order situation yet again with no clear current delivery time. This is the the reality in the world of manufacturiong and distribution.

I hope this information helps you understand the facts and circumstances beyond our control which clearly has lead to your frustration. Please contact me directly at blair@musicmarketing.ca anytime for RME Support in Canada.

Lucas (from MM) replied this morning and informed me that it'll be at least another week before more stock arrives. hmm

Oh well...
I'm sad, but no longer axe grinding mad.

I'll see what kind of duty the Feds will punish me with if get one overnighted from Sweetwater.

Thanks.

Re: AIO Ordering nightmare

Well, I had another kick at the can trying to get hooked up with an AIO last week...
Still no stock...estimated 2 week wait. yikes DeadHorse

But, it seems it may have been a blessing in disguise.
While at Long & McQuade (cancelling an order on Auralex that was 9 weeks back ordered...yes, 9 weeks...don't get me started :censored ), I was chatting with the sales rep about RME and he had high praise for the BabyFace.

So I took another look at it.
I had my doubts USB interfaces, but the reviews I read were good.
And after I really considered all it's features, I realized it would be a better choice for me than the AIO.

Got online and ordered it from Sweetwater.
It was on my doorstep in under 48 hrs....

So far, all I can say is this is absolutely brilliant.
Excellent sound, no glitches, cracks or pops (unlike my big pile of stink Motu firewire), included balanced breakout, a carrying case that actually has memory foam in it, TotalMix, big volume knob with dim, great build quality etc etc.
Very very nice!
It's turned out to be perfect for what I want.

:-D
