Topic: Latency Jitter Question for Matthias

Hi MC! First of all, thank you for your time!
You once wrote an interesting article about latency jitter. At the end of it
you also wrote that the "problem" will be fixed by Steinberg and Apple in
upcoming updates of their Cubase and Logic.
Has that happened? I have a HDSP9632 and my notes always end up out of place,
not late, maybe too soon, and not where i played them even with 32 samples buffers.
My rig is a nice PC with Cubase. Tried other PC's with Reason and FL Studio, Live,
and the same thing happens. Do you have any recent thoughts on latency jitter?

Re: Latency Jitter Question for Matthias

The Tech Info about Latency Jitter has no relation to MIDI notes not placed at the correct position when playing at 32 samples buffer size. That is solved by using the correct settings in the software, as mentioned in the latest manuals. Or by changing the motherboard to one with a more solid clock (just in case you still use one of those dinosaurs...).

Re: Latency Jitter Question for Matthias

When triggering via MIDI, is the real latency still variable between 1 and 2 buffers? Or the rule of thumb you were talking about is still standing? Please clarify me, it is very important to me. Thank you!

Re: Latency Jitter Question for Matthias

Honestly I don't know, sorry. For a useful info you would also have to check all ASIO supporting software, not only Cubase. You can easily do this yourself using the example in the Tech Info.
