Topic: A question on mic pres

I'm planning on buying a Babyface. My original plan was to buy a mic pre with digital out (maybe something like the Focusrite ISA One because I don't need multiple channels).

I'm hearing the A/D converters on the Babyface are pretty nice, so I'm wondering if my best option is to just purchase an analog mic pre and let the Babyface handle the conversion. My budget for a mic pre is $1,000 or less so I'm not in the market for any of the premium units.

So...do you think I should just get an analog-only pre and let the Babyface handle the conversion? Or would I get an appreciable improvement from buying a pre and using its ADAT out into the Babyface?

Also, what other RME units have the same converters as the Babyface?

Thanks.

Re: A question on mic pres

I'd go with a descent analog mic preamp for $1200 or so and let the RME handle the ADC - hands down...

keep in mind that you cannot bypass the babyface's preamps: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=10604

Re: A question on mic pres

Set to 0 dB they don't have any effect.
