Topic: FF400 - External power supply vs bus power

Hi folks.

Is there any advantage in using the external power supply instead of buss power? I'm using a quad core with TI firewire chipset.

And second question: On my old saffire firewire the cpu meter didnt move at all in cubase 5.1 with buffersize 256 (latency 7 ms) but it does with ff400, what's up with that? (I can run as low as buffer size 64 without crackles, but the cpu meter still moves like crazy in small steps in cubase)

And off topic:

I just discoverd that using my own belking firewire cable (instead of the rme standard) gives me a little bit more stable cpu load in cubase. Fine i guess smile

No difference between bus power external in terms of performance or audio quality or whatever...

But the FF400 draws less power from the computer PSU if using external power supply right?

Re: FF400 - External power supply vs bus power

If you put the switch to external then it draws zero power from the computer PSU.
