Re: babyface humming analog inputs

Do you have the Instrument button on? Does it hum when you connect an input device?

Re: babyface humming analog inputs

no i didnt on the instrument button . and without plugging any thing it buzzing little and indicate very little on totalmix. when i gain it start to hear clearly ... sometimes its only a noise but most of times its humming ... Is there anything like that happen course of computer problem or power problem ? ...

because i already lost my rme 9632 card. it generates huge white noise... so im afraid of about babyface also ...

Re: babyface humming analog inputs

hi, i've also been troubleshooting a hum with my new babyface.  i found that it comes from attatching a midi cable to the midi in while usung the breakout cable extension.  if the midi device on the other end is plugged into the wall, the hum gets louder.  it also increases to unacceptable levels as the gain is insreased on the input channels.  remove the extension cable and the hum (not preamp hiss) goes away.

this happens on an imac and a macbook that isn't plugged into the wall.  i'd really love to know if you're experiencing the same thing as i'm about to send mine in for testing.  would love to avoid the hassle if this hum is just inherrent to the circumstances stated above with all babyfaces.

best,
matt

hey thanks .. i unplugged the extension cable and hum is gone ... i think RME should check it coz babyface is a exclusive device .. it shouldn't happen on it ...

Hey thanks i also want to know about it ....

Re: babyface humming analog inputs

I had the same thing happen to me and messed around for a week trying to get rid of it, I tried all kinds of stuff. Then I started to unscrew one of the small screws that hold the breakout cable to the BabyFace and it went away. It was the screw on the right hand side, only unscrewed it about 2 turns and now its crystal clear, screwed it back in the buzz came back, back out gone. The screw must be bottoming out and grounding itself, I don't know? Just happy its gone.

Re: babyface humming analog inputs

The described hum when MIDI is connected is indeed caused by the extension cable. We will come up with more info soon how to get a new cable without this effect.

Great, thank you!

Re: babyface humming analog inputs

Does humming also happen with BO9632XLRMKH extension cable?

That is a breakout cable, not an extension cable.

Yeah thankss :-)

Re: babyface humming analog inputs

Hi, I am facing hum on my Babyface (quite visible also in TotalMix AN2 input)  when simply MIDI in cable is connected to MIDI out of my Yamaha Clavinova.
This happens even if analogue inputs are not connected at all (and of course continues when inputs are connected). It disappear if MIDI cable disconnects or if MIDI device gets turned off.
Considering some previous discussions in this list, I understand it should be due to the provided breakout cable.
Thinking to a workaround: Apart from waiting new cable (how can we receive it?), and apart from not using the MIDI (I need midi), do you have any other workaround I can try? Need to play MIDI and to use analogue input (with ho hum) at the same time.
Thanks a lot for your precious help.

No, it is caused by the extension cable. The breakout cable is fine unless it is simply defective (which can happen, of course). The workaround therefore is to not use the extension cable.
