Topic: Babyface & External Preamp

Hi,

New Babyface owner here.

I'm looking to add a Neve preamp to my system, for times when I need "coloured" sound. The two models I am looking at are the 1073DPA and 1073DPD, the difference between them being the on-board ADC.

My question is which unit would be the most suitable, and what is the optimal way to connect it to the Babyface?

Thanks in advance.

can't bypass the internal preamp unfortunately.  don't know why they would've done this.

You can connect the DPA with it's XLR outputs to the XLR inputs of the Babyface. The internal preamp has no effect on the signal set to 0 dB.

The DPD canot be connected directly to the Babyface as this preamp provides two (!) XLR outputs in AES/EBU format (1/L + 2/R). You need at least a converter with two AES/EBU inputs (!) to SPDIF optical or ADAT.
