Topic: RME 32DA - weird behaviours.

Hi everyone,

I got myself a RME 32DA a few months ago and it worked great until last week.

I used to work with an optical cable ( SC connector type ) but I had to change my setup recently for a BNC cable.

It did work ok until now.

Hardware:

- Mac pro Xeon 64 2x3ghz running OSX 10.6.7
- RME 32DA firmware 2.77

Software:

- Ableton 8.2.2
- Cuestation 5.1.0

Here's the situation:

- Small clicks and pops - I matched my sample rate settings ( card / projects ) and kept having clicks.

- The led ( Error ) on the PCI card was red with my BNC cable and I tried again the Optical ( SC connector ) and it turned green again but it didn't changed the weird behaviours that I'm about to describe.

- If I output using channel 1 and 2 it shows ok in the Mixer(totalMix) settings but on the front panel of the card it outputs in channel 1/2/3/4 and it sends audio to my other system and it receives it in 4 different inputs.

-If I output audio from only one channel, it will output in 2 outputs. It always double the outputs.

Here's some screens shots of the mixer / front panel:

On that pic
TotalMix is showing the signal coming from ableton ( which is ok with my routing ) but the Front Panel is outputing something else and the incoming signal in my other application is the same as the one displayed on the front panel ( 3/4-5/6-7/8-9/10 )

On that pic
Ableton is outputing using out # 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 13 and 31/32 as master

On that pic:
My other application receiving the signal from the RME ( signal routed 1 for 1 ( 32 outs > 31 ins ))
it is receiving in inputs 3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 and not 13 which is my TC.

I honestly don't know what is going on.

The system routing totally switch overnight and no longer works.

Stiil looking for some answers.

Hit me back

Thanks

Olivier

Re: RME 32DA - weird behaviours.

Hello Olivier,

I can see a problem with clocking. Your HDSP Matrix clearly shows 32 channels only, which means the card is operating in Double Speed (44.1/48kHz x2). The photo of the front panel of the M-32 shows the unit is set to 44.1k, but DS is not active.

I picked up the manual right after writing that post.

Totally found it....and obviously didn't looked that while troubleshooting.

Thanks.

I'll remember this from now on.
