Topic: Babyface outputs

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if I can use the Babyface interface to go digitally via XLR to a digital studio monitor?

Thanks,

Re: Babyface outputs

No, the Babyface provides an optical SPDIF output.

Re: Babyface outputs

Okay thanks for your reply - any RME product I can use to go from a Mac (either USB or Firewire) and output digitally via XLR ?

Re: Babyface outputs

the digital outputs of the bf are only adat optical or spdif optical.

assuming your studio monitors have aes/ebu digital inputs, it is possible if you use a format converter. i am using a cheap behringer unit for such duties http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/SRC2496.aspx (in this case you have to switch the babyface optical output to spdif in the RMEs soundcard settings).

the behringers highest sample rate is 96khz, keep that in mind. if you need 192khz on your inputs, look for another converter.

imho only the ufx (out of the usb/fw audio interfaces) has got a coaxial aes/ebu digital i/o.

edit

have a look at RMEs feature comparison sheet under

http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_features_table.php

btw, the AIO also has an AES/EBU I/O (it is not mentioned in the list)

Re: Babyface outputs

Thanks for info on using a converter - I think is probably going to my solution.  I think I've got a Mutec somewhere abouts.
