Topic: Fireface UC - Utilizing 16 Channel Outputs

Hi!
In my current setup, I use the Fireface UC, along with a Dangerous Music
2-Bus LT. Right now, I sum my mixes out on 8 channels (utilizing the 8 standard analog outs
on the UC). I'd like to sum on 16 channels out, but I'm not sure how I can effectively do this.

Do I buy a ADAT lightpipe device and hook it up to the UC? Or should I purchase another UC and
chain them together / hook up both to the computer - to achieve the desired result? And, if I should
purchase a lightpipe device, what's an excellent brand?
I tend to record / mix projects at all sample rates, from 44.1 up to 96... What's the most cost-effective,
high quality way for me to get another 8 outputs?

Thank You!

You can use a second UC as standalone converter...

RME!

A list of 8-channel ADAT converters or interfaces - usable as 8-channel ADAT converters - from RME:
- Fireface 400 (free programmable/routable converter)
- Fireface UC (free programmable/routable converter)
- Fireface 800 (free programmable/routable converter)
- Fireface 800 (free programmable/routable converter - internal effects - full stand alone control via display)
- ADI-8 DS - 8 channels with 96 kHz via SMUX
- ADI-8 QS (absolute high-end converter without compromises) - 8 channels with 96 kHz via SMUX

But as Daniel suggest, a 2nd UC would be the best solution. It provides the same converters and could work as backup unit or even on a 2nd USB port with the same driver for more than 48 kHz projects (96 kHz = ADAT SMUX 4 channels).

Re: Fireface UC - Utilizing 16 Channel Outputs

Thanks for both your advice!
Quick question: What if, instead of purchasing a 2nd UC, I purchase a UFX? Can
I hook up both the UC and UFX via USB simultaneously and utilize 16 analog outs that way?

I saw a video where you can set two UC's as aggregate devices in Logic...
Can that be done with a UC and UFX?

Thanks!!

20 = 12 + 8

Can that be done with a UC and UFX?

Yes. But this combination is not officially supported (USB2 bandwidth limit).
