Topic: Fireface 800 crashing new computer when switched on HELP!

Hello there

I have made a computer from scratch with asus quad cpu, 8 gigs ram etc etc on gigabyte motherboard.

My fireface 800 was working fine with this setup but then it started to blue screen about a month after making it. I changed the firewire lead to a brand new one and this helped things for a while. Recently as soon as i turn on the fireface the blue screen of death comes up and stops things. I think it said item exception on the info screen on the BSOD.

Is this to do with conflicting IRQ's? I've heard that can happen. I try not to load anything onto this new machine that could bloat it. Although i have itunes and spotify, are there issues with those aps? I kinda use it for entertainment machine as well as demo recordings, is this wise?

Really bummed out as was looking forward to more productivity but has gone to zero now.

The fireface 800 works with my mates laptop in a mobile recording environment so i know it works without my new machine.

Any boffins on here willing to lend a hand?

Cheers

Have tried using the Firewire legacy driver?

- Go to Device Manager, FireWire Contoller.
- Choose Driver, Update Driver Software
- Choose "Browse my Computer for driver software"
- Choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". A list pops up that shows three entries:

OHCI-compliant 1394 Host controller
OHCI-compliant 1394 Host controller (legacy)
OHCI-compliant Texas Instruments 1394-Host controller

- From these three select 'OHCI-compliant 1394 Host controller (legacy)'
- Install the latest FF driver...

Glad I could help. Using the legacy driver solved a bunch of problems for me using ff400, windows 7 64 and sp1.

Have a nice day
