Topic: Multitrack recording with UC

Hello,

I'm planning to upgrade my mobile recording setup. Currently working with a MOTU 8pre on an old Pentium4 Dell laptop via firewire. I can record 16 track simultaniously without any problem. Snce my laptop is not up to cpu heavy mix tasks I would like to switch to a new Sony Vaio quad core machine and more specifically this machine:

Since newer laptops have the RICOH firewire chipset I will most probably encounter problems with my 8pre.
So I was thinking of also taking the USB route and buy a Fireface UC. Now my only concern is: will I be able to record up to 16 tracks simultaniously and send out 3 different stereo headphone mixes at the same time over USB 2.0?

Hopefully someone could shed a light and take away my doubts.

Thanks in advance
Kurt

Re: Multitrack recording with UC

From my experience with UFX, which is also USB2.0 interface, 16 track recording is no problem.
UC has only one headphone jack, so if you need 3 different submix for headphones, you need to conenct headphone amps to line outs on the back. You can acutally have 4 different stereo submix, routed by Total Mix control panel mixer.

Re: Multitrack recording with UC

Thank you for your reply! Yes I am aware about the headphone amps.
I just have to be sure that USB2.0 provides enough bandwidth to really make the promised 18 I/O possible

Re: Multitrack recording with UC

Of course it does, the UFX can do 30 in / 30 out simultaneously over USB 2.
