Topic: Raydat and TEB Tdif Expansion on Mac 8 core - Mission Impossible?

Hi,

I can't believe it: I recently bought a new 8core Mac Pro, since there simply was no Raydat driver support for my Mac G5 PPC with PCIe. That in itself I found rather sameful for RME. Now I got the new mac and - believe it or nit - I got two problems instead of one. Sorry to be pissed off right in my first mail here, but I'm kind of freakin' out (wich is quite reasonable under these circumstances).
That's the new problems:

First: for my Setup I NEED Tdif, hence the TEB expansion, wich is an official expansion for raydat. This TEB needs a 6-pin powersupply. There is one in the superdrive section on my mac - but no way get the cable there without leaving the the Mac open! I called the mac support: " It is not a planned feature for the mac pro. All pcie cards get their power without cable! ...

Second: There is really no way to comprehend the cablng of raydat and TEB from all manuals thare are!!!! I must really say it this way: POOR!!!
In the TEB manual there is quite some detailed information, how to get it together with the older Hammerfall 9652.
In the Raydat manual here is not more than a listing of internal connections, but without any hint where the corresponding 2-pin slots are on the board. How in the world is someone to figure this out???
Please! give me some  help here. Or you can call it the Gaydat board in the future ...
:)

(I'm having a hard time to smile here!!! But I still try!)

Can you not pull one of the hdd bays out and use the SATA power connector and convert to molex?

Re: Raydat and TEB Tdif Expansion on Mac 8 core - Mission Impossible?

Hello,

the TEB has been designed in 2002 and stayed unchanged since then. The power connectors in computers change nearly every year, we are not able to provide a multitide of perfectly fitting solutions right out of the box without a much more higher price for the product.

But of course it should be possible to use the TEB with our latest products. We will check out the current options today and report here.

Hello,

on a PC there is no problem with the TEB. The included 5 1/4 to Floppy adapter cable solves any problem - if there is one at all. Even the latest PCs still seem to have all kinds of connectors and power outlets available.

On the latest Macs there are two possible solutions:

- the above mentioned SATA to 5 1/4 adapter, then using the supplied TEB adapter cable. On some machines the cable will not be long enough and needs an extension of up to 20 cm. Such an extension cable 5 1/4 (or Molex) to 5 1/4 is available for a few bucks in any electronics shop or computer shop.

- using the DVD drive's power connector. This requires to buy a splitter cable (1 on 2), available for a few bucks in any electronics shop or computer shop. It is usually long enough to then connect the supplied TEB adapter cable.
