Topic: I keep getting error in fireface 400

I've beeing having serious problems with RME Fireface 400.I've installed windows 7 64 bit ultimate.I've installed the new driver posted in the site (3.047) but the soundcard never worked properly.I keep getting errors in the RME's Panel. After that I re installed windows 7 with service pack 1.I Kept getting errors in RME's Panel and drop outs.I fixed my motherboards and CPU temperature and run memtest86 to see if there was a problem with the RAM but it had no errors. So everything seems to be working great in my pc except RME.I Keep getting errors and dropouts and in the past blue screen deaths but that was probably cause the motherboard's temperature was to high.anyway this morning when I turned on RME i got a message that this driver (3.047) needs 2.77 firware...right now rme's fireface 400 firmware is 1.70.At the download section however I see that the flash update tool with which I can update the firware in 2.77 is only for fireface 800.In deed if I try to run the exe it doesn't even run.So can you please tell what is going on here?thank you

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

I Just got a Blue Screen Death and dumping physical memory test so it could still be connected with fireface. It wasn't because of the motherboards temperature.any help please

The quality of your FireWire is nothing we have influence on. Fix it so that you see no errors counted up and the FF will work as expected.

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

So you think that the Firewire hub of the motherboard is the problem?I have to tell you that it was working flawlessly before I install the new drivers of RME.And what about the message?the one saying I need to update the firmware in 2.77 cause these drivers need this version to work? And what about the blue screen death? They are quite frequent now.All these you thing that is the fault of the quality of the firewire? And What do you mean fix it?How?any suggestions?

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

This problem isn't limited to the FF 400.  I have a FF 800 and get this exact error right after updating to the latest 3.047 too.  The flashtool says I'm already using the 2.77 firmware, so this issue needs to be addressed.  I'm using Windows 7 (64-bit) too.  I'm unable to get to the FF settings window (by left-clicking on the orange system tray icon) so I can adjust the errors I'm getting - I hear dropouts when playing a simple MP3, and I can't even adjust it.  Instead, that popup comes up with the 2.77 firmware error.

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

Hi,
any solution to this problem yet? I am having similar problems with Windows 7. The Fireface mixer will open but not the settings dialogue box.

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

Problem 1:
I kept getting intermittent errors on my FF400 and the bluescreen of death too. So I did a search and found a tool (http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml) that reports your pc latency to see if there is any issues with my real-time audio streaming and bingo there was a very large red spike every five seconds which is not good.
I then followed the tool instructions on diagnosing which device is causing the red spikes.
Basically you have to go to the device manager and disable one driver at a time and see if the red spike stops appearing on the latency monitor.

I found that a network PCI card I had was causing this red spike and so I've removed the device and now I hardly ever hear glitches or see errors on my fireface when sequencing in my DAW.

Problem 2:
I had the 2.77 firmware version alert for my FF400 too which was strange but after removing all the drivers and re-installing them the message box disappeared. Make sure you remove all files when you uninstall the drivers so you get a clean install of the new drivers...

Hope this helps....
One thing I would like to find out is where the error log file is kept for the FF400?

RME FF400 (v3.047)
Ableton 8.2.5
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1, 2.83ghz Quad Core, 6GB ram

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

also might be work checking your latency on the FF 400 too because errors can happen when you have low lat and loads of buffering going on!

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

I have the same problems/error message although I spent a lot of time finding out how to install and optimize my notebook for audio and especially FF400. I think I can say I tried almost everything, even an eCard with Texas Instruments FW from the recommended Dawicontrol. It works but very unstable.
So everybody is passing the buck to someone else. For me it's just frustrating because I'm a user and I have to work with this stuff and not spending days to configurate something that even doesn't work propperly in the end.

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

Make sure you use the "High Performance" power-profile, not the default "Balanced" one.

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

Thanks :-), but how I said, I optimized my notebook for audio. DPC shows latency about 100µs, maximum 188µs. So it's even possible to work with buffersize of 48 samples in Windows 7. I'm very glad about it. But then it happens sometimes (also with a bigger buffersize) that the connection to the FW400 get lost with the result of a buzz noise. Turning of-on/reconnecting doens't work. I only got this strange errormessage already mentioned. I also tried a different FW cable. Windows sounds are disabled and anyhow my onboard soundcard is standard for normal sounds.
I remember with my previews notebook it was possible to disconnect the FW cable while working in Cubase. Cubase was waiting until the cable was plugged in again and I could continue working. Was very stable...sadly not anymore no:

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

Does that mean you are using the "High Performance" profile already? It's not about optimization, but about the PCI Express Power Link Management option that's by default active in the (default) "Balanced" and "Power Saver" profiles. This can cause BSOD in combination with the FF.

That turning on/off does not help sounds a lot like a Firewire issue though. What about changing the FW driver to Legacy?

How could your motherboard temperature get too high?!

Re: I keep getting error in fireface 400

Thanks for your answer, Timur. I made an own power profile based on the "High Performance" profile and I'm using it. I also use the legacy FW driver, the other ones caused BSODs.
I realized that my NVIDIA graphic chip doesn't behave nice so I deactivated the NVIDIA driver and used the SaveVGA driver. It's a bit stupid because now my CPU has more work with it, but it seems to work better. I made a test with a loop in Ableton and also Cubase later for about 4h each without any problems.
However the disconnect/reconnect issue including the strange error message is still there but if I don't lose connection anymore in the future I can live with it.

By the way, I wrote myself a script (*.bat) to deactivate drivers, services etc. by one click and also to reactivate it later. Maybe interessting for sb:

It's for a VAIO VPCS13M1E and Windows 7 and avast! Antivirus but can be adapted. You need to download the devcon.exe from microsoft if it's not included in your windows. It wasn't for me....

Set to Live-Mode

@echo off
echo Disable Wifi

The IDs of your devices at hardware->device manager->details->Hardware-ID
