Re: RME hdsp 9652 pc card compatibility with chip set

HI FN,
That Intel chip set works fine with all RME HDSP series cards.
The 1066 ram is a waste. It will me more reliable to run it at 800mhz. There will be very minimal speed difference between 800 and 1066mhz ram for audio use.
I assume you are using Windows 7 64 bit since you want to use 8 gigs of ram. If so the ATI Radeon HD 4000 and 5000 series video cards will work better.
That system will be able to do allot more than 16 tracks of audio with some effects. smile

Re: RME hdsp 9652 pc card compatibility with chip set

thanks for your reply Chris, i was thinking of setting up in the 32bit and spx what are the advantages of 64 bit? and windows 7. if i do this can i use 4 gig of ram do i need to worry about compatibility of ram and the motherboard and CPU or can i just buy the special on at the time...is any ram manufacturer clearly better than another? cheers FN

Re: RME hdsp 9652 pc card compatibility with chip set

You need 64 bit to use more then 2gb per application (For example cubase or other DAW). If you are not into VSTi samplers like Kontakt or don´t record massive amounts of tracks for very long times (like live shows with 48 tracks for 2 hours), 32 bit with 4gb of ram will be fine. If you need one or both options go for 64 bit 8gb. BTW I run a HDSP9652 with 8gb corsair on a P45 chipset with a Q9550 (just a little faster then a Q8400) on Windows XP64 pro. Rock solid.

Re: RME hdsp 9652 pc card compatibility with chip set

HI FN,

Windows 7 32 will not see more than 4 gigs of physical ram so there is no point in either having more than that.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit will see up to 16 gigs and Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate 64 bit will see journo 128 gigs.

Even when using just 32 bit applications 64 bit can be beneficial since each application can access upwards of 3.2 gigs of ram each.
This is very helpful if you run as Vincent said Virtual Instruments as well as running rewired applications like Reason.
If you do another media production as well as audio then 64 bit is awesome since you tend to have multiple applications open at the same time.
There is no cost difference between the the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. The only real thing you need to worry about is if you have hardware and software that is more than 3 years old. Your hardware will typically need to have specific Windows 7 64 bit  drivers available. Most 32 bit software even when it is fairly old can be installed and used on Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks Chris

Re: RME hdsp 9652 pc card compatibility with chip set

Hi everyone, well i was all set to order my computer parts and build a recording computer with a p45 mothrboard and core 2 quad 9550 but in australia these are no longer available, old stock it seems which is a bit of a gyp. new egg won't post to australia and neither will the other mobs amazon etc. i can however get an Intel Retail Boxdh55hc Atx H55 1156 Ddr3 i don't know what sort of cpu i assume i5 or i7 and hve to use ddr3 ram which i believe is overkill but compatable with the motherboard. I have a yamaha 01v96v2 desk which i was going to use with hdsp9652 card bought s/h oping to get 16 channels of audio and use a moderate amount of plugins. i can also get the p43 and p41 mother boards here will they work...this whole exercise is starting to wear thin after 6 months of saving and research...greatful for any comments...i think i'm loosing heart in the project a bit (wait til i get to soft ware problems)...this is certainly designed to kill off any enthusiam for actual music it would seem. yours in tedium FN

Re: RME hdsp 9652 pc card compatibility with chip set

Hi all,
a big thankyou to all those who helped to plan and get me going with my set up. I now have a hdsp 9652 card in a intel quad core 9550 on p45 gigabyte mobo, ddram3 8 meg, 2 x 1terabyte hd, running windows 7 64 bit and cubase 6 via a yammy 01v96v2 (master) with 2.4 update linked via optical adat toslink cables, and the early signs are its fantastic.

I have a background of 20 years expereince of studio operation with analog gear and wanted to get back into recording for a bit of fun. I bought the cpu, processor, ddram3, hdsp, and 01v96 second hand. The system is so powerful i can't believe it and for about 4 grand australian...all i have to do now is to learn how to run it. I bought a couple of rode mikes too and they just round off the whole setup. I'm sure i will have more questions but for now i will enjoy it in  my rudimentary way.
Cheers FN
