Topic: Babyface pops/clicks/hangups

When the air conditioning unit in my home kicks on, the Babyface makes a single click in my output (headphone or analog out). It's very hot here, so the A/C is constantly turning on, and I cannot have these clicks... they drive me insane.

The Babyface also pops VERY loudly when it is plugged in and I boot up my laptop. I am sure that if my expensive monitors were turned on, it would blow them instantly. Luckily I noticed this issue with headphones first. Using a Dell D530. Both issues are experienced with my laptop; no other computer to test with.

Another annoyance is that the Babyface causes my computer to hang when returning from Standby, and I have to do a forced shut down of my laptop. The Babyface also will not "safely disconnect" from the windows usb control panel, so I am forced to unplug the Babyface or shut down my laptop every time I want to end my session.

I used a Firepod for years and never experienced any of these issues, and to be honest, I'm quite irritated that I am experiencing all of these issues when RME is touted as being rock solid. The device sounds great, but these little issues really piss me off. I bought the unit hoping to streamline my productions, and so far it has only made things more difficult and cumbersome.

Can anyone help me with the issues that I am experiencing? Is there anything I can do to solve these problems?

Thank you

Install the latest firmware and drivers from our website. Is that Windows XP or 7?

Windows XP. All drivers and firmware up to date.

In that case there is nothing we can do. Pops on power-on are normal. Hanging when returning from Standby is no normal behaviour for the Babyface, but can not be guaranteed to not occur on any system out there. Updating to W7 might fix this for the D530...maybe...

Re: Babyface pops/clicks/hangups

Ah, with the heat you think you are getting all the power from the power company that you need? No, you are not, but still, the air conditioner should be on a separate circuit all to its self. It it is, then you have other power problems perhaps. Anything else I have not experienced but I also did buy a power conditioner for my computer, stereo, and all that is needed there to connect to it. Perhaps you are having dirty power problems, and need a power conditioner. I know that works well, and cleans up electrical power. The rest I never had a problem with, like loud clicks when turning on or disconnecting (which I really don't do at all) but know that there is an icon on the task bar that should be "safely remove hardware" which is for disconnecting USB devices and reconnecting devices should not be any issue, at least it has not been for me.

Should I exchange my Babyface for another one? My firewire interface does not have this issue with the clicks during my AC power up.
