Topic: Small delay need help

Hi, I want to begin by saying that I am completely new to record and build a studio

Babyface soundcard
Adam A5X studio monitors
Computer good enough for anything
Inspelning programet jag använder heter Reaper

So my problem is when I record or play at all, I get the delay of 0.1 seconds
and it is quite frustrating

If you know if there is Reaper or something else causing the problem with the delay as I have, I would appreciate if you share with us the era of experience / knowledge

thanks in advance / / Fleming Lee

Re: Small delay need help

Hi,
We need know some information about your system in order to help you.

What Operating System? Windows XP, Vista or 7? 32bit? 64 bit?
Has the system been optimized for audio production?
What version of Reaper?
Are you using the RME ASIO driver in reapers audio settings?
Are you trying to monitor your input using Total MixFX as well as inside of Reaper?
Are there any audio Effects running in this project? If so which ones?

Thanks Chris

Re: Small delay need help

As for ASIO in Reaper, please refer to the program's online help (F1).

What I'd like to know is where and how exactly that delay occurs, how did you measure it?
What is delayed with regard to what?

Re: Small delay need help

The delay come from when i play on the instrument to the sound from the monitors, thats when the delay comes, everything else seems to sync

Re: Small delay need help

Make sure to use ASIO in Reaper. And check the latency setting in the BF settings dialog.

Re: Small delay need help

Hi Fleming Lee,

Has the system been optimized for audio production?
The system? do you meen the computer or software?

Mainly your Operating System. Windows 7 like XP needs some optimization's done to get the best performance out of your computer.
Here is a page that has more information on these optimization's along with other useful Windows 7 information.
http://www.tweakhound.com/windows7/tweaking/index.html

Are you using the RME ASIO driver in reapers audio settings?
No how do i do that?

Here is a guide from the RME America Facebook Page for setting up Reaper.
How to Setup Reaper version 3 or 4 with RME Audio Interface in Windows 7

The guide explain how and why to use either hardware monitoring i.e. Total Mix/Total Mix FX or software monitoring.
To put it simply you need to use one or the other not both.

Any questions for how to setup software monitoring I would either read the Reaper manual and/or ask for at their very helpful user forum.
